Formed in 1980, the Indiana Four Wheel Drive Association (IFWDA) acts on the common concern for motorized recreation while practicing stewardship of our natural resources. IFWDA, through its association with other state and national organizations, works to promote and act on issues affecting four wheel drive recreation.
IFWDA coordinates with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) on various planning boards. This includes participation on the Indiana Trails Advisory Board, which sets the direction for trail use on all IDNR properties. Through this partnership with IDNR it is hoped that some public lands will be opened to four wheel drive recreation.
Rising Sun was founded by a few guys that had Land Cruisers and belonged to other 4 wheel drive clubs that were mostly Jeep owners. They got tired of the ridicule and all the "special deals" on parts that only pertained to Jeeps, and nothing for the FJ-40's and pickups they drove. So enough was enough, and in March 1981 The Rising Sun 4 Wheel Drive Club of Colorado, Inc. was born.
The Great Lakes Four Wheel Drive Association (GLFWDA) is a non-profit organization built around four wheel drive vehicles, their owners, and the land we use them on. GLFWDA works to bring together these users with organized events such as camping trips, casual trail rides, and weekend wheeling trips.
GLFWDA also acts as the region's voice to help keep our trails open so that we can continue to use our land and enjoy these outdoor activities for generations to come.
GLFWDA is also a part of the United Four Wheel Drive Association (UFWDA), one of the largest supportive groups for off-highway recreation. GLFWDA is also active in land use issues and ORV trail maintenance activities in many parts of the region on both public and private lands. We enjoy an excellent reputation with Land Use managers as a group of responsible land users who are concerned about environmental issues and motorized access. We often field crews of volunteers with all the necessary skills, equipment, and training to handle diverse projects including clean up, fencing, signage and, trail maintenance.
